Hadith on Mercy: We will never be deprived of good by a Lord who laughs Posted: 19 Feb 2013 02:05 PM PST Abu Razeen reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Allah smiles at the despair of His servants as He soon changes it." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, does the Lord laugh?" He said, "Yes." I said, "We will never be deprived of good by a Lord who laughs." [Sunan Ibn Majah, Introduction, Number 181, Sahih] Ibn Taymiyyah said, "The sane desert Arab upon his sound natural instinct understands His laughter to demonstrate His grace and blessings; it shows that this characteristic is related to beauty and praise, and that this is a characteristic of perfection."
Hadith on Mercy: Allah has mercy on a man who killed a believer but repented Posted: 19 Feb 2013 01:54 PM PST Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Allah will smile at two men; one of them killed the other but both of them entered Paradise. The first man was killed in the way of Allah by the second man, and the second man repented and fought for the sake of Allah until he was martyred." [Sahih Bukhari, Book 52, Number 80, Agreed Upon] Ibn Abdul Barr said, "His saying: the laughter of Allah, means Allah has mercy on His servants in this manner and He receives them with comfort, mercy, and affection; this is a well-known metaphor."
Al-Bukhari on Exegesis: Everything will perish except the face of Allah, meaning His dominion Posted: 19 Feb 2013 01:27 PM PST Al-Bukhari reported: Allah the Exalted said, "Everything will perish except His face," (28:88) which means everything will perish except His dominion, or it is said everything will perish except what was intended for the sake of Allah.
